Make the space you have feel more like yours.

A renovation can reconsider the way existing rooms connect, how light moves through the home and how well the layout supports everyday life.

A better brief

Focus on what isn’t working today.

Start with a typical day. Which spaces feel disconnected? Where do people cross paths? Is storage, privacy, natural light or access a recurring frustration?

Separate the changes you need from the ones you would like. This gives you a practical way to discuss priorities and trade-offs, especially if the scope or budget needs to be refined later.

Existing homes can contain conditions that only become clear as work progresses. Ask how the agreed scope, allowances, discoveries and variations will be managed and documented before committing.

Questions to consider

Get clear on the change you want.

Where does the flow break?

Note the everyday routes through the house and where they feel cramped or inconvenient.

What should feel different?

Think about light, privacy, storage and how you use each room throughout the day.

What can stay?

Identify valued features and rooms that work well, as well as the areas you want to change.
